Gigabit Seattle, an extension of The Seattle Broadband Partnership, is an exciting citywide initiative designed to bring fiber optic broadband connections – the fastest available Internet technology in the world – to Seattle. The initiative will further demonstrate and solidify Seattle’s position as a leading and globally competitive city.
Gigabit Seattle is owned and operated by national broadband leader, Gigabit Squared. While many regions across the country are focusing on networks to serve today’s needs, Gigabit Squared will leverage the City of Seattle’s existing excess fiber capacity to construct a network that will provide speeds that can support tomorrow’s applications and innovations. This new network, called Gigabit Seattle, provides gigabit speed Internet connections to serve as the foundation for enhanced economic opportunities and quality of life for the citizens and businesses of Seattle.
The Gigabit Seattle network will create new opportunities for innovation as Gigabit Seattle’s platform for innovation will be the foundation for creating tomorrow’s great products, services, and innovations. The Gigabit Seattle network is a critical foundation towards making Seattle more competitive and a destination for 21st century commerce.

| Gigabit speed broadband brings with it the ability to video-link students to anywhere in the world. Video-conferencing breaks down the walls of the traditional educational system and takes students inside operating rooms, to engineering labs, or across the globe to speak with their peers in another country. These experiences will strengthen our region’s workforce of tomorrow. | Seattle’s new network will help our medical professionals collaborate with the world’s top medical professionals, in real time. Only through gigabit speeds and telemedicine can we share medical images in real time and work “side-by-side” with specialists to deliver citizens the best care available. | The power of gigabit speed broadband can help make our streets safer and our government services more efficient. Deploying Internet services in police cruisers, fire and safety vehicles will provide these professionals with the resources they need to better serve and protect citizens. | With today’s economy more dependent on innovation to survive more than ever before, Seattle will be providing its current businesses as well as business looking for relocation options with a world class network for advanced research and development. Studies show that no more than 15% of businesses in the U.S. have the connectivity speeds that Gigabit Seattle will provide. |
